Biographical Notes:

During an air firing exercise in the Tasman Bay, a Hudson 3, piloted by Dean Horrocks  and Vincent Hill flew so low the propellers hit the waves causing massive vibration through the aircraft. The plane climbed to around 200 ft., but soon lost height and crashed into the water.

Of the remaining crew, only the Observer, J Colway, made it to the shore, despite him being the only man without a life jacket. Air gunners Jack Bryson, Victor Chapple, Gordon Stevens and Armourer John Davis died, as did the two pilots.
