Further to my earlier story the Memorial Plaque states that John was 38 when he was killed which does not tie in with the date of birth I have, 28 January 1877 in which case he would have been 40 yea...rs. I cannot determine which is correct. [John McLaren Lett also served in the South African War and was stated to be 25 years old on his Certificate of Discharge dated May 1902.
