Biographical Notes:

"A verdict of suicide was returned by the Coroner Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the inquest into the death of a soldier. Clarence Richard Franklin, aged 20, who was found in the guardroom of a military camp early this morning. Evidience was given that Franklin was courts-martialled recently on a charge of insubordination and was under detention pending promulgation of the sentence.

Further evidence was given that Franklin had not been considered fit to go overseas and had been employed around the camp. He was seen to be all right at 11pm on Wednesday, but when visited by the guard this morning was dead A towel was wrapped tightly round his neck."
