Biographical Notes:

"Flight Lieutenant Maurice Frederick Fifield, aged 25 years, married, of Te Moana, Geraldine, died early on Saturday evening as the result of a gunshot wound in the forehead. Fifield had returned to the home of his father-in-law, Mr W. L. Warne, Te Moana, after attending an R.S.A. carnival at Geraldine with his wife. Fifield decided to have a shot at a rabbit before tea. His wife saw him climb the gate and she turned to go back into the house when she heard a shot and saw her husband lying on the other side of the gate. Flight Lieutenant Fifield was formerly employed in a garage at Geraldine. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. and passed out with top marks for his flight at Harewood. He then proceeded to England on active service. He returned to Geraldine last December. He had not been discharged from the Air Force."
