Biographical Notes:

Drowned when the auxiliary yacht Pera was swamped when stuck on the Sumner sand bar. 

 

“The body of Mr Percy Benjaman Dobbie, motor mechanic, aged 25, of Fitzgerald street, Christchurch, the fourth man from the wreck of the auxiliary yacht Pera,was washed up On the Sumner beach shortly after 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The Pera was lost on the Sumner bar on June 21, the sole survivor being Mr Harold Collett, of 130 Matson’s road. The bodies of the two other members of the crew, Mr Leslie Collett (father of H. Collett), of McFaddens road, and Mr Ernest William Dobbie, of 247 Fitzgerald street, were both recovered shortly after the boat was wrecked.”
