Alexander McIsaac served on 75 Squadron. His closest friend was Sgt Observer/Bomb Aimer George T Jobson, a native of South Broomhill in Northumberland and McIsaac would sometimes spend his leaves in ...the Jobson household. Following the crash in November 1942, in which all crew members were killed, the Jobson family asked for their son's body to be buried in the family plot at Chevington and, as McIsaac was their son's best friend, they asked that his body be laid to rest alongside their son. Thus two young airmen, friends in life, remain together in death. For many years a local woman, Mrs Elliott, laid flowers on McIsaac's grave and her daughter, Mrs Boyd continues this tradition. Every year, on the Sunday nearest to ANZAC Day, Newcastle Branch of the RAF Association place poppy crosses on the graves of all the Comonwealth airmen buried in Chevington Cemetery. Read More

Sadly, Mrs Boyd died of cancer early in 2014. However, the tradition of placing flowers on McIsaac's grave will be carried on by another member of the family.
