The recently excavated grave (2018) of WO2 Cecil  Burnand, NZ Army Service Corps in Lewisham (Ladywell) Cemetery, London. It seems likely that he never visited New Zealand. He attested in London and travelled to Gallipoli in May 1915 aboard the British troop ship, SS Melville. Evacuated to Egypt, and then to France in April 1916 and promoted to Section Quartermaster Sergeant and Acting WO1, serving near Rouen. We will continue research to ascertain any other NZ connection.

He became ill in March 1917 and was eventually transported to England and admitted to the New Zealand Hospital
at Brockenhust, where he died from Tuberculosis on 1st July 1917.
