Biographical Notes:

"Private Geoffrey Robinson Coupland, only son of Mr. Levi Coupland, of the Auckland "Star" commercial staff, died in Victoria Hospital at Wellington on Friday evening, and is to be buried at Karori with military honours on Monday. Young Coupland, though only 21 years of age, showed himself possessed of such military ardour that he enlisted three separate times, first in May, when, after some weeks in camp, he was rejected as medically unfit, and next in October, when he went into camp at May Morn, and again failed to pass the medical test. He enlisted for the third time when the call came for the Eleventh Reinforcements, and this time he passed the tests. On December 20 he entered hospital with appendicitis. Last Wednesday he was successfully operated on, but pneumonia unexpectedly developed and carried him off." [Auckland Star, Volume XLVII, Issue 8, 10 January 1916, Page 7]
