“The adjourned inquest into the death of Arthur Merryfield Collin, who was killed on the Pukerua-Paekakariki road on May 15, was held on June 24 in Otaki. Mr. G. H. Harper, District Coroner, returned a verdict that the deceased died at Pukerua Bay due to a laceration of the brain sustained by a collision between his motor-cycle and a tank trap. Mr. Harper commended the police and Mr. Collin, father of the deceased, for the able way in which they had prepared their evidence, and also made mention of the manner in which others had testified. He considered it his duty to add a rider to the effect that the tank trap was insufficiently lighted, or not lighted at all, while no warning had been erected a distance away, which should have been done.
