Biographical Notes:

Falling out of formation and losing height, Phillip Clark baled out of the aircraft, but was killed when his parachute failed to open. On investigation, it was determined that the aircraft was flying normally and that the ground below was suitable for a forced landing. There was no explanation for the pilot’s actions. Phillip had previously been seriously injured in a Tiger Moth crash in April 1943 at Ashburton.
