The death has occurred at the Christchurch Hospital on Friday of Private Thomas George Claridge, third son of Mr Thomas Claridge, of 23, Chappell Street, Papanui. Private Claridge was wounded in the face at the battle of the Somme, and later contracted rheumatic fever. He was invalided home, and went to Hamner for treatment for several months, subsequently being removed to  the Christchurch Hospital. He 'was 35 years of age, and was farming with his brother at the time of enlisting. The family has a fine record of military service. One son died of wounds received at Messines, another was killed at. Passchendaele, and of the two surviving sons, Charles Reuben Claridge has returned home from the front, and Maurice R. Claridge, who enlisted at 17 years of age, is still in camp.
