SUICIDE AT FEATHERSTON CAMP.

Sergeant Cambridge, of the 23rd Reinforcements, was found dead with his throat cut at the Featherston Camp on Monday. It appears that deceased had become somewhat despondent owing to a nervous breakdown, though he had given no indication, that he intended to commit the rash act. At an inquest held yesterday, before Mr E.. G. Eton (District Coroner), a verdict was returned that deceased committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor while in a despondent state of mind.

THE LATE SERGEANT CAMBRIDGE.

Sergeant Robert Cambridge, a member of the Twenty-second Reinforcements, who died at Featherston Camp on Monday, was accorded a military funeral yesterday.

At the time of his enlistment Sergeant Cambridge was employed at the D.I.C., being in charge of the hardware department, and was highly respected. He was also treasurer ot the Veterans' Association, and was a most energetic worker. Sergeant Cambridge saw service in South Africa, serving with the 29th Imperial Yeomanry, and received a medal with two clasps. He was a comparatively young man, being only thirty-four years of age, and was very keen on going to the front. He leaves a widow. The service at the deceased's residence and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev John Baterson. The D.I.C. was represented by Mr E. C. Brown and the heads of the departments. The pall-bearers were members of the Veterans' Association, comprising Mr D. Leo (president)., Mr G. Cresswell (vice-president), Mr J. Timbrell (secretary), and Messrs H. Alpe, W. H. Simpson and Bradwick. Wreaths were sent by the Veterans' Association, D.I.C, Mr and Mrs Schnieder, V. B. and R. Colett, Mr and Mrs Selwyn King, Mr and Mrs George Smith, officers and N.C.O.'s and men of G company, Mr and Mrs McClea and Mr and Mrs Houston.
