Biographical Notes:

Douglas Cairns and William McJannet were the crew of a Dauntless aircraft, on loan from the US Marine Corps, doing air firing practice. Flying low through a valley near Waiuku, the aircraft stalled, crashed and burnt out, killing the pilot and observer.
