Anzegem Communal Cemetery

Location Information: 

Anzegem village is about 20 kilometres east of Kortrijk, off the N382 Waregem - Ronse road. From the motorway E17 turn off at Junction 4 Deerlijk, and turn onto the N382 direction Ronse. Continue along this road through the village of Anzegem past the junction with the N494, take the first turning left past this junction and the cemetery is at the end of the road.

Historical Information: 

The British Expeditionary Force was involved in the later stages of the defence of Belgium following the German invasion in May 1940, and suffered many casualties in covering the withdrawal to Dunkirk. Commonwealth forces did not return until September 1944, but in the intervening years, many airmen were shot down or crashed in raids on strategic objectives in Belgium, or while returning from missions over Germany. Anzegem Communal Cemetery contains 18 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. There is also one First World War burial.
