Biographical Notes:

“Q.M.Sergeant Wilfred A. Brogan, second son of Mr. E. V. Brogan, of the Department of Agriculture, who died on Wednesday, was accorded a military funeral on Friday. The cortege left the Basilica, Hill Street, and proceeded to Karori. The services at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. Father Dignan. The "Last Post" was sounded by a bugler from Trentham Camp. The pall-bearers under Captain C. L. Mullany were members of the Railway Engineer Battalion and. comrades of the deceased soldier. Q.M.S. Brogan enlisted on the outbreak of war at the age of 19, and sailed to Samoa 15th August, 1914. On his return from Samoa he was discharged, but re-enlisted, and left with the 14th Reinforcements, as Q.M.S. He served right through the heavy fighting, and was gassed, and subsequently badly wounded, at Messines, and was discharged as permanently unfit. Two other sons of Mr. Brogan served with the forces. One was killed at Passchendaele, and the other, who served right through Gallipoli, was severely wounded, and returned to New Zealand. A fourth son enlisted four times, but was turned down each time.”
