Biographical Notes:

“Gunner Frederick W. B. Williams left with the 40th Reinforcements, and was one of the New Zealand soldiers who died at sea from an attack of influenza. “Freddy” Williams was the well-known Alhambra five-eighth. He started his football career with the Alhambra Club in 1905, and in 1908 was chosen as a member of the senior fifteen. He represented Otago on 20 occasions from 1910 to 1914. He was very popular with his club mates, and was much respected for his manly qualities.“ [Otago Witness, Issue 3367, 25 September 1918, Page 42]
