Biographical Notes:

"Grandson of one of the defenders of Ruapekapeka Pa, Mr. Frank Tamati, of Taumarere, has died in the Kawakawa Hospital at the age of 42. Volunteering at 16 years of age, Mr Tamati served overseas in the last war, and joined up with the N.M.R. early in this war. At the time of his death, he was camp warden with the Kaikohe Home Guard. He was accorded a military funeral at Kawakawa, the firing squad of 12 soldiers being provided by No. 3 Area. Whangarei. Many of Mr. Tamati's comrades of the Kawakawa R.S.A. attended the funeral. A panegyric was delivered at the graveside by Mr. Here Ututaonga."
