“Official advice has been received that Private Lindsay Ralph Swale, eldest son of Mr and Mrs R. W. Swale, of Waitoa, has been killed in action. Twenty-eight years of age, Pte. Swale was born in Eltham, Taranaki. He commenced his schooling in that province before coming north with his parents, first to the Hauraki Plains and later to Waitoa, where he completed his education. He left New Zealand with the Seventh Reinforcements nearly two years ago, and his brother, Herbert, also left for the Middle East at the same time.
