"The Reverend George Stubbs, of Turramurra, NSW; formerly of Christchurch, NZ. Chaplain Stubbs was ordained a priest of the Anglican Church in 1913 and joined the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) as a chaplain in August 1915. In 1921 he transferred to the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy serving until 1926. He was later re appointed a chaplain to the RAN. In 1941, at the age of 57, he volunteered for service aboard HMAS Sydney. Chaplain Stubbs and 644 other crew men lost their lives following the engagement between HMAS Sydney and the German cruiser Kormoran off the coast of WA on 20 November 1941." (AWM)
