ONE KILLED, EIGHT INJURED

ARMY TRUCK CRASHES OVER BANK SOLDIERS FROM GODLEY HEAD Christchurch, Sept. 14. One soldier was killed and eight injured when an Army vehicle crashed over a bank early this morning. The victims were:— Killed Gunner Eric Richard Thomas Robinson, aged 20. Mother, Mrs Mary  Robinson, Christchurch. INJURED  Gunner Leslie James Williamson. Gunner F. E. Hooper. Gunner Frank Long,  Gunner T. E. Bateman, Gunner A. A. Thorne, Gunner J. K. Milne, Gunner H. G. Mahoney, Lance-Bombardier W. Paterson. The men were returning from leave to Godley Head coast defence post. A truck met the men at the Sumner tram terminus and had a full load of men at the time of the accident. The driver and man alongside him escaped injury, all the casualties occurring among the men in the body of the truck. Three ambulances from Christchurch were called and took the injured to hospital, where five were admitted. The other three were sent to hospital for observation this afternoon,  It is understood that with the exception of Gunner Williamson, who has injuries to his back, none of the injured  in a serious condition.—P.A.
