Posted to HMS Diomede as CYOS 13/10/1930 to 26/11/1934, then served ashore at Philomel 27/11/1934-17/5/1936 and was discharged ashore on a pension. Rejoined the NZ Division of the Royal Navy as CYOS 3/9/1939 – was posted to the Port War Signal Station at Lyttleton 3/9/1939-30/1/1940. He was then posted to Philomel 31/1-15/2/1940 and invalided out on the 15th
