Biographical Notes:

"The body of Private James Alfred Porter, a soldier from a local military camp, was found yesterday morning lying in a stream under a railway viaduct between Abbotsford and Wingatui. The deceased was a married man, whose home was in Kakanui. It is thought that Private Porter was walking across the viaduct when he slipped over the side into the stream below. He had been missing from camp for two or three days. An inquest will be held."
