"His Sea Hurricane suffered an engine failure and while attempting a forced landing at 10-15 crashed at Pylle, 3 miles SSW of Shepton Mallet. The pilot was seriously injured and admitted to Bath Military Hospital, where he died at 17-50 on the 1st May"
