"Severe head injuries from which he died almost immediately were suffered by John Caldwell O'Connell, soldier, married, with three children, of Haywards Terrace, Lower Hutt, in a collision between the bicycle he was riding and a motor-lorry at the corner of White's Line East and Hawkins Street at 4.45 p.m. yesterday."
