Biographical Notes:

"When the car he was driving failed to negotiate a bend half a mile south of Te Puia on the East Coast road, about 70 miles north of Gisborne, and capsized into a lagoon on Saturday, 1st. inst, the driver, Leading aircraftsman Harold Morrison, aged 24, of Rotorua, and recently returned from the Islands, was drowned in the vehicle, together with Joyce Waihi, aged 17, a passenger in the vehicle. Minor injuries were suffered by two other occupants of the car. Born at Nelson, the late Leading Aircraftsman Morrison is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. J. Morrison of Rotorua and late Councillor of Lower Hutt. Enlisting at Lower Hutt, where he was educated at the Eastern School, he served for five years in the N.Z.R.A.F., and had only received, his discharge at Christchurch three days before the tragic accident.”
