Biographical Notes:

"The death occurred suddenly at Wellington on Tuesday as the result of a heart attack of Captain Leo Patrick Molloy. Born and educated in Wellington, Captain Molloy joined the Defence Department and was stationed at Palmerston North before being transferred to the Central Military District at Wellington. Of a quiet, retiring nature, he nevertheless enjoyed the regard of many friends, and had many interests. He was a keen follower of most sports and, while in Palmerston North, was a strong and helpful supporter of the Rugby code. His organising ability in his military duties was of great value when the outbreak of war demanded enormous expansion of peacetime establishments. His tact and knowledge of military procedure, gained over many years, made him a highly-esteemed officer. He is survived by his wife. The military funeral took place at the Karori Soldiers Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, when there was a large uniformed attendance, as well as many relatives and civilian friends. The service at the mortuary, and later at the graveside, was conducted by the Rev. W. R. Lapsley, chaplain of the Forces. The last honours were observed by a firing party and a bugler of the Ist Battalion of the Wellington Regiment."
