Biographical Notes:

"Corporal Norman Bennetts (killed in action) was the youngest son of Mr A. F. Bennetts, a well-known farmer, of Washdyke. He was twenty-eight years of age and was well-known as a member of the Zingari Football Club, and more widely as a boxer, having been sparring partner of the late Trooper James Hagerty. He later took part in many Now Zealand tournaments, and won a New Zealand amateur championship. He left South Canterbury for Auckland about a year before the war broke out, and enlisted there."[New Zealand Times, Volume XLI, Issue 9486, 21 October 1916, Page 3]
