Biographical Notes:

“Sergeant-major Chisholm Menzies left New Zealand with the 7th Reinforcements, and first saw fighting in Western Egypt against the Arabs at Christmas, 1915. He then proceeded to France, and was wounded in the advance on the Somme in September, 1916. Upon recovering, he was appointed to the training staff in Sling Camp, but on the arrival of his younger brother from New Zealand he volunteered again for the front. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery and resourcefulness at Passchendaele Ridge. About the middle of August he proceeded to England to spend his leave with his brother, who is shortly returning to the dominion. He returned to France the same month, and was killed on August 31.“ [Otago Witness, Issue 3367, 25 September 1918, Page 42]
