Biographical Notes:

An inquest was held on Alfred McLean, the returned soldier who was found poisoned in the Southland Hospital on April 3. The evidence showed that the poison was got from the pocket of an old tunic in the bathroom. A verdict was returned of suicide while in a depressed state of mind, no blame being attachable to the staff.
