Biographical Notes:

"Private William Charles McDonald, killed in action, was the second son of Mr W. McDonald, Spylaw, Heriot. Born and educated in the district, he followed farming on his father's farm. He enlisted with some of his companions in the Ninth Reinforcements, and on reaching France was engaged in driving the guns." [Otago Witness, Issue 3322, 14 November 1917, Page 19]
