Two airmen being trained at the Royal New Zealand Air Force Station, Wigram, lost their lives in a flying accident yesterday, when an Airspeed Oxford aeroplane stalled and crashed at Lake Ellesmere. They were: Leading-Aircraftman Ronald James Brown, of Wellington. Leading-Aircraftman Norman Joseph Graham Marshall, of Springston. The aeroplane crashed at 2.40 p.m. while coming into land at Lake Ellesmere. The pilot, Leading-Aircraftman Brown, was seriously injured and died after being taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital. Leading-Aircraftman Marshall was killed instantly. Leading-Aircraftman Marshall was born at Springston in 1920. His father is Mr J. W. Marshall, of Springston. At the time of his enlistment, he was employed at the Public Works Department, Wellington. The next-of-kin of Leading-Aircraftman Brown is his mother, Mrs C. M. Gilmour, 9 Prince Street, Wellington.
