FUNERAL OF SERGT-MAJOR KcKENZlE.

ALBANY, December 14.

The funeral of Sergt-Major Charles Duncan MacKenzie of the New Zealand hospital ship, who  was the victim of a boating accident on Saturday night, took place yesterday afternoon, with full military honours.

The cortege left the public hospital  in the following order. Firing party drawn from the A.G.A., under Sergt-Major Harriott; Albany Band under Bandmaster O'Neill; hearse, bearing coffin; Lieutenant Mutton representing the New Zealand Government; squad of returned wounded soldiers from Rock's Hospital; members of the Naval Reserve and Naval Cadets under P.O. Smith; mourning party from H.M.S. destroyers, under Lieutenant McManus, Lieutenant Everett; midshipmen of the local naval forces, and the Mayor of Albany, representing the citizens. Mr H. Wiley acted as chief mourner, while Chief Petty Officers Wilson and Downton, W.O.'s Hawkins and Robinson, acted as pall bearers. As the procession moved along the streets to the Dead March In 'Saul,' the sight was a most impressive one, large numbers of citizens assembling on the corners to pay their last respects to the dead. The remains were interred in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Rev. H. Reeve conducting the service in the absence of the pastor. The service over, the usual salute was fired, and the 'Last Post' sounded by Bugler Kean. The troops were again formed up and marched to the town, the band playing the spirited march, 'Sons of the Brave.' Mr. J. C. Mews carried out the funeral arrangements.”
