Biographical Notes:

A night flying test went badly, when the Hudson bomber piloted by Wilfred Williams failed to take off from Ohakea and crashed into the boundary fence, killing all 3 aboard. It is believed that the aircraft was improperly trimmed for take-off. William had at least 32 missions with Bomber Command. Beale and Gibbons were likely to have been on the strength of the station workshops and on-board to assist the pilot. [For Your Tomorrow, Errol Martyn, Vol.2, p.120]
