Biographical Notes:

The Wellington bomber took of from Kabrit, Egypt at 23-50. Shortly after take off, it suffered an engine failure due to a glycol leak. In preparation for an emergency landing, the bomb load was jettisoned at low level, the blast possibly, the cause of the plane crashing in the Great Bitter Lake. Two New Zealanders were in the crew, Desmond Haydon, Captain and Donald Lander. 2nd Pilot.
