Biographical Notes:

"John Brian Hartland, single, aged 22, whose parents reside at Te Kauwhata, was fatally injured in an accident with a tractor on a farm at Albany this morning.

Mr. Hartland was driving a tractor towing discs through rough manuka on the property of Mr. G. Hawkins. No one witnessed the accident. When found, the tractor was overturned and Mr. Hartland was pinned beneath the discs. It is thought he endeavoured to jump clear of the tractor when it began to capsize."

John was on discharge leave at the time of the accident.
