"A private cablegram today announced the death from wounds of Lieutenant G. F. Hart, an All Black in six seasons and one of the greatest Rugby wing-threequarters New Zealand has seen. In 1926 Lieutenant Hart joined the Christchurch Club and played as second five-eighths for a time, but very soon he was out in his proper place on the wing and two seasons later had won his Canterbury cap. In 1930 he reached his full powers, having improved both in weight and pace. That season he played in the four tests against the touring British team and acquitted himself with distinction. In 1931, 1932 and 1934 he again played for New Zealand. Then he toured Great Britain with the 1935 All Blacks and played in 19 of the matches, including the three tests. He scored 33 points. Overseas Lieutenant Hart was a selector of an Armoured Brigade team, and, with Captain J. L. Griffiths, also an All Black, he was a selector of the unbeaten New Zealand Army fifteen in the Middle East. Lieutenant Hart was also a sprinter of considerable ability. He held the 100 yards New Zealand title in the 1930-31 season. He leaves a widow, a son aged four years and a daughter aged two. His parents, Mr and Mrs L. B. Hart, live in the Tauranga district."
