Biographical Notes:

"Sergeant the Rev. Edmund W. Halford, killed in action, gave up a good position in business to qualify for the Christian ministry. He gained first-class honours in his theological course at Knox College, and gave promise of a most useful career in the Presbyterian Church ministry. For some months he filled the pulpit of the Caversham Presbyterian Church, in the place of Chaplain Major Dutton. No opportunity being given for leaving for the front as a chaplain, he enlisted and left with the Twenty-fourth Reinforcements as sergeant. He was an accomplished and pleasing singer, and his services on the transport and in camp were greatly appreciated. He also found time to relieve the Y.M.C.A. chaplain. He was well known in Oamaru, where in his student days he occupied the pulpit of St. Paul's Church during a vacancy." [Otago Witness, Issue 3322, 14 November 1917, Page 19]
