"The passing of Mr William Harold Pollock, aged 52, of Hunua, has removed a very popular farmer and old resident of the district. Some months ago Mr. Pollock was seriously injured while riding in a truck returning from Home Guard duties, and since the accident has been in hospital. Mr Pollock, as a settler of Hunua was untiring ,in his efforts to further any worthy object in the district. He often assisted with dances by providing the music on the accordion. He was also a keen member of the local Farmers’ Union and took an active interest in its affairs. He was wll liked and will be much missed in the district. The funeral took place on Saturday when there was a large attendance including over 100 Home Guardsmen  present. The Horne Guard, under Major W.Brooks which included representatives from Drury, Papakura, Ararimu. Ramarama and Hunua marched  from Coles Crescent— preceded by the cortege to the  cemetery. The firing party and pall bearers were members of the Hunua unit. The Rev. R. Maddocks, Presbyterian minister, officiated at the graveside, the Last Post being sounded by Captain S. Wilson. Deceased is survived by Mrs Pollock and two sons."
