Biographical Notes:

“The sad news has been received of the death of Lance/Corporal Willian C. Weenink, who was killed in action in recent fighting in Italy. At the time of his enlistment he was engaged in the teaching profession and for many years was prominent as an outstanding footballer and athlete. In the Middle East he continued his sporting activities and was prominent in many football matches amongst the services. The late Lance/Corpora Weenink was well and popularly known on the West Coast. He is survived by his wife and two children now living at Methven; also his mother, Mrs. J. Weenink of Westport, and two brothers.” [Grey River Argus, 30 March 1944, Page 6]
