Biographical Notes:

During a formation practice, the Vincent, flown by Vernon Raymond, experienced engine failure and made a forced landing at the mouth of the Pelorus river. Another aircraft dropped a message to the house of Mr. G Acton, to form a search party. The group were met half way to the plane by the two least injured passengers, and when reaching the aircraft found the pilot and one passenger, James Murphy, dead. The failure was later found to be a blocked fuel pipe.
