Biographical Notes:

Thomas was wounded in the head and thigh at Gallipoli and evecuated home. He worked as a clerk at the Defence Stores in Palmerston North for the remainder of the war. His service record has him as a temporary Lance Corporal at the time of his death.

“The death from double pneumonia following influenza occurred at Palmerston North last night of Mr Thomas Davis, a returned soldier, son of Captain T. J. Davis, Adjutant of the 5th Regiment, and Mrs Davis, of Nairn-street, Wellington. Born 29 years ago, the young man left with the 3rd Reinforcements, and was badly wounded in the Gallipoli fighting, returning to New Zealand in November, 1915. At the time of his death he was on the Defence Staff, Palmerston North. His illness with such fatal developments was sudden, and the young man died in the presence of his father, who had motored through, to Palmerston North in response to an urgent message. He was educated at Marist Bros. School, and later at St Patrick's College, and was a popular and genial personality with all who knew him. Several other members of Captain Davis's family are affected by the epidemic.” [Evening Post, Volume XCVI, Issue 120, 16 November 1918, Page 6]
