ENGINEER SID. HARDIE. "Mrs. Hardie, of Northcote, has received cabled intimation from the headquarters of the Red Cross in London of the death on the 1st April of her son, Sidney White Hardie. No details have been received beyond the intimation that he died at Mohammerah. The deceased belonged to the Red Cross Motor Launch Patrol Service, but previously served for six months in the Civic Guards. He was 33 years of age, born in Auckland, and resided with his mother and step-brother (Mr. Arch. Campbell) at Northcote, going to the primary school there, and was also a prominent member of the Northcote Athenaeum. He was also educated at the Auckland Grammar School, after which he proceeded to England, and established a dentist's business in Chester, in which he was engaged up to the time he entered on active service.” [Auckland Star, Volume XLVIII, Issue 108, 7 May 1917, Page 5]
