Biographical Notes:

"Special to ‘‘Northern Advocate”  AUCKLAND, This Day. An inquest into the death of Richard Beamish Biddles, the returned soldier , who fell to his death from the top of  the nine-storey Lister Building into Victoria Street  on Thursday, was  opened yesterday afternoon.  Deceased, who was invalided home from the Middle East in December, was a single man, aged 26.

John Wallis Biddles said deceased was his brother, and had farmed with the family at Pukehuia, Northland. In a letter about a week before his death he indicated that he was going to try and get a position in the army again. He had never expressed any suicidal tendencies, and so far as witness knew he had no financial or other worries. When he left for Auckland on December 28 he showed no sign of depression or worry. While serving in Egypt he was involved in a motor accident, arid injured the hip, knee and head. The inquest was adjourned." [Northern Advocate, 7 February 1942, Page 4]
