SOLDIER'S DEATH IN HOSPITAL

INVALIDED HOME FROM EGYPT

A soldier of the Ist Echelon, who was sent back to New Zealand from Egypt because of illness, died in the Christchurch Public Hospital on Friday evening. He was Mr Raymond Todd, of 287 A Lincoln road. Mr Todd joined up the day the Government decided to allow men up to 40 to enlist. In spite of serious internal trouble after appendicitis, for which he underwent many operations, he passed the medical examination and left with the Army Service Corps. In Egypt, sand dysentery aggravated his old trouble and he was sent to a hospital in India where operations were performed. He returned to Christchurch in December arid died suddenly after a short period of good health. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
