Biographical Notes:

 In transit from the Middle East to Britain,  the HMT Laconia, was sunk  by U-156, in the Atlantic,12th September 1942, off the coast of Liberia. Two New Zealanders survived the attack and escaped in lifeboats. Unfortunalely, neither made it to shore. Gilbert Hayton (RAF) died aboard the lifeboat on the day before it was rescued, 20th October 1942  and Peter Medhurst, (FAA) died around the 1st October 1942 - his boat landing in Liberia on the 10th.
