Biographical Notes:

His brother, William Mellon was killed in action on 29 July 1916, (156183 Royal Engineers Tunnelling Company. Formerly Royal Dublin Fusiliers)

A second brother, James, served with the New Zealand Field Artillery. He was wounded by a shell in 1916, and was returned “unfit for war” from the UK in March 1917. He died in Westport 1928.

Another brother, Hugh, was a Second Lieutenant with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and received the Military Cross. He survived the war.
