Biographical Notes:

"Captain N. J. H. Gavin, R.A.M.C., died at the front as the result of an accident, was the fourth son of Mrs J. C. Gavin, of Karori, Wellington. Educated at the Wellington Terrace School and Wanganui College, he attended the Medical School at Otago University for one year, and then went to Edinburgh, where he completed his medical studies. He joined the R.A.M.C. in 1915, and was attached to the Fourteenth Royal Irish Rifles. He was awarded the Military Cross, and was in October last awarded a bar to the cross. His brother, the Rev. G. H. Gavin, is serving as a chaplain with the New Zealanders." [Otago Witness, Issue 3322, 14 November 1917, Page 19]
