Biographical Notes:

On a ferry flight from Nelson to Blenheim, the Vildebeest lll was seen emitting thick black smoke on take-off. The aircraft turned to land, but  was not turned into the wind. The pilot, Lionel Squire made a steep right hand turn, but stalled and dived into the adjacent golf course. The pilot and Wireless Op, Lindo Thompson were killed, passenger, Ernest Johnson, died of injuries in Nelson Hospital the next morning.
