Biographical Notes:

Private Leonard Barnes, who died at the Christchurch Hospital on Sunday, was a son. of Mr. Chas. Barnes, of Cheviot. and left New Zealand with the Seventh Reinforcement. He saw considerable  service in France. At Passchendaele Ridge he received wounds in the head, and was invalided home about two years ago. He never completely recovered from the injury, and recently becoming much worse and was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital The deceased leaves a widow and one child. The funeral took place at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon, and there were over fifty returned soldiers under Captain W. Evandon, present. The Court Queen of the Isles, A.O.F. Lodge, of which deceased was a member, was also well represented. The pall-bearers were Sgt. C. Cole, Sgt. Major Crocker, Privates Tibble, P. Miller, M.M., J. Harkness, and Radonovitch. The Rev. J. K. Hewland officiated at the graveside. The firing party was furnished by the deceased's returned soldier comrades, and Bandsman W. Jeffreys, also a returned soldier, sounded the "Last Post."
