Biographical Notes:

"The inquests into the death of John William Bartlett, married, able seaman, and Alexander Hugh Graham, single, stoker, were concluded to-day by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt. The bodies of both men were found floating in the Waitemata Harbour on April 13. The evidence showed that the deceased Bartlett had left the canteen at Devonport at 8.55 p.m. on April 8, and the deceased Graham left the canteen at 8.15 p.m. on April 9. There was a complete blackout and no lights were showing. There were no hand rails on the wharf in question, and the only protection was a block of wood about 8in high. The coroner returned a verdict of accidental drowning in each case." [Auckland Star, Volume LXXIII, Issue 99, 29 April 1942, Page 8]
